The data was released as MIB and police forces across the UK begin the week-long Op Drive Insured campaign, which will see police increase their activity in tackling uninsured vehicles while the MIB leads a public awareness campaign in tandem. Someone in the UK falls victim to an uninsured or hit-and-run driver once every 20 minutes, with an average of 300,000 uninsured vehicles believed to be on the roads every day, according to MIB data. Uninsured and hit-and-run drivers cost the UK economy up to £2.4 billion each year.
