Credit: Alex Ellinghausen In the political debate segment on Seven’s Sunrise , Ley kicked off the back and forth when she said Labor had “brought in more migrants last year in any time in Australia’s history”. “We have a housing crisis, what we have to do is get back to basics,” Ley remarked. Host Natalie Barr then intervened to ask why the Liberals won’t vote for the build-to-rent plan, kicking off this exchange: Ley: Because it was bad policy, Nat. It would make the rich fund managers richer and prevent more Australians from getting into a rental. So we will never support bad policy in the parliament. Clare: That is absolute rubbish. Ley: We will never support bad policy in the parliament. Unfortunately, they might not be affordable for Australian renters. The numbers are just so small compared to what we need. It is two years in... Clare: It is 160,000 homes... Ley: Nothing has happened. This housing... But it’s not happening.
